This year, alone, 1.7 million people will be diagnosed with some form of cancer. Over 600,000 will lose their fight with cancer. And that’s not ok. Two years ago, the challenge lasted 30 days. I rode 332 miles, and we raised $6,867.30 – which made us #1 team in the world! Last year, the challenge was cut back to 14 days. I rode 241 miles, and we raised $7,551.64 – again, making us the #1 team in the world! So, the challenge is daunting, but I’m going to do my part. Even though, we only have 12 days to do this, I can ride 250 miles, and I know we can raise over $8,100. But I need your help again – and I say that with the same disclaimer I always leave you with: I know what it looks like to stare at your month end budget and have nothing left over. I know what it feels like to be asked to support another cause when you are already supporting a variety of them. And I know what it feels like when you don't know how to say no to someone you'd like to help. So while this fundraiser is ultimately asking for your money, I'm also telling you that if you can't - I understand. Cancer CAN’T. It CAN’T win. It CAN’T keep hurting us. It CAN’T keep touching us. And we CAN’T ever stop fighting. In a strange way, cancer is that rare unifying force. Enemies share their disdain for it. Cancer doesn’t discriminate so all people – no matter their gender, race, sexual orientation, religion, political affiliation, age bracket - you name it – we are all affected. And we are all fighting for the same thing – which is ironic and hopeful – since so often, we focus only on what makes us different, rather than remembering what makes us all the same.
